In this short article, our BIM coordinator Lorenzo Pede presents construction-level modelling of HVAC systems on the Autodesk Revit platform.

For HVAC system design, Autodesk Revit has several useful tools, but when it comes to construction-level design, the default LOD is not adequate; this is where the professional's experience and real skills come into play.

As BIM coordinator, I play a key role in the design process, because I can decide which type of family to choose and how to parameterise it. Designing and then modelling the fabrication parts of an industrial plant, complete with supports, requires in-depth knowledge of the regulations as well as the practical ability to use the software to the full.

International projects need correctly modelled elements that provide detailed information, giving a complete and realistic view of the system and adding to the quantity take-off the special fittings that are not included in Revit's basic routing preferences.

In these screenshots you can see the work I am doing with B1P Group on fully parametric Duct and Hanger families, which give a verified estimate of the loads on the support beams and of the weight of the parts that make up the ducts.

Shall we discuss it
