BIM proves once again to be a winning choice for healthcare facilities.
During the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, B1P Group kept working without pause: together with ROSSIPRODI ASSOCIATI and C-engineering it is part of the team that won the contract for the definitive and detailed design of the demolition and reconstruction works for an ASL (local health authority) building in Benevento, all delivered through the BIM process. Using Autodesk Revit and Navisworks, our role will be to manage the modelling and coordination of the design models and, with the ASL's RUP (the contracting authority's sole project manager), the entire BIM process, including the Common Data Environment (CDE).
Today BIM has become the culmination of the evolution of the design and construction sector, in which the design becomes part of a single process that considers the entire life cycle of the building. The building is modelled before it is physically built and, through simulation of the design, the spaces being designed can be explored, with immediate feedback on any changes to be made.
As early as 2011, Denmark required the use of BIM as an essential requirement in the design of healthcare facilities, buildings so complex that they are difficult to manage through traditional construction processes. Copenhagen's hospital, created by merging two old hospitals into a single new hospital complex, will make use of BIM technology. In Italy, the first major example of a BIM tender in the hospital sector is the extension of the Galliera Hospital in Genoa.
BIM in the design of healthcare facilities requires proper planning. Doctors, engineers and architects, the institution's project leads, contractors and specialist building services contractors work together in an optimal, synchronised way. One of the advantages of this interdisciplinary approach is that the design process for healthcare facilities takes account of all construction, medical, regulatory and economic factors from the very start of the design phase.
