A single-stage design competition has been launched under Article 152 et seq. of Legislative Decree 50/2016 as amended, for the design and construction of a new multi-purpose building that will house the new single headquarters of Istat, in the SDO district in Pietralata, Rome.

The work covered by the competition and the subsequent appointment is the technical and economic feasibility design (preliminary design) of “The single headquarters of Istat, Città della Statistica”, to be built in the SDO area of Pietralata, with the aim of bringing together the staff and activities currently spread across its various offices in Rome.

The idea is to build a building complex designed around spaces focused on comfort at work, achieved through the design of innovative types of space and the adoption of advanced technologies. A working environment aimed at maximum flexibility: depending on possible future developments, the spaces will be used as individual offices, open-plan areas or shared workspaces.

Under paragraph 13 of Article 23 of Legislative Decree no. 50 of 18 April 2016 (hereinafter the “Code”), Istat has set objectives designed to be implemented through a highly innovative information management process that uses the latest advances in the methods and tools commonly referred to as Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

In addition to the regulations already listed in the Call for Competition (call code), the NTC technical standards for construction, the EUROCODES and the Code in particular, participants are asked to comply with the whole UNI 11337:2017 series of standards

Besides a prize of €812,600.00 for the best design, the winner of the Competition, if also awarded the definitive design, will have to develop the criteria and contents of the pre-appointment BEP (oGI) by drawing up the BIM Execution Plan (Piano di Gestione Informativa).

Proper coordination between designers and modelling that meets the parameters set by the BIM execution plan are activities we carry out routinely through our BIM consultancy and development services, which remain the ideal way to take part in international competitions like this one.
