An interesting design competition launched by Emaar Development of Dubai. The task is to create the design of the new mosque at the heart of the ambitious, world-class development project on the Dubai waterfront, Creek Harbour. The whole area covers 5.6 million sq m and will include 48,500 homes for a population of 175,000.

A truly ambitious project where the BIM process will take centre stage, because in the United Arab Emirates it is now an established standard.

The ambitious urban development project aims to create a city that respects both Dubai's culture and its modernity, a place where people can live and work in harmony with nature and, in the long term, a community where families can fulfil their aspirations for generations to come.

The mosque must therefore meet these requirements:

Iconic design

Capacity for 7,500 worshippers

An accessible roof able to hold 2,000 worshippers

Deliverables

The highest possible quality is required for renderings, 3D perspectives, CGI and diagrams.

Participants

Entrants must be professional architects, architecture practices or officially recognised architecture students.

Submission dates

• The design competition opens on 2 April 2018

• The deadline for competition entries is 12:00 (UAE time) on 21 May 2018

• The 5 finalists will present to the judges in Dubai.

Prizes

The winner will receive a prize of $40,000

while the other four finalists will receive $10,000 each.
