BIM modelling with Autodesk Revit

Families, standards and coordination for buildings and building services: the Revit model that supports design, construction and IFC delivery.
At a glance

B1P Group models the architectural, structural and building services disciplines of buildings and industrial plants in Autodesk Revit: parametric families, templates and modelling standards, coordination between disciplines, schedules and quantities from the model, IFC export compliant with the information requirements. B1P Group is affiliated with and works alongside the leading Italian and international software resellers. We also deliver Revit training for third parties.

Definition

What does good Revit modelling mean?

Revit is the most widely used software in Italy for building BIM; a well-built Revit model is one that others can open, understand, measure and update. It depends on three things: families built with the right parameters and the necessary detail, shared templates and rules (levels, phases, worksets, naming conventions), and an IFC export set up on the required classes and property sets.

A model that follows these rules produces consistent drawings, schedules and quantities and passes the client's check; a model made in a hurry produces good-looking drawings and unusable data.

Deliverables
Revit discipline models, parametric families and libraries, project templates, schedules and quantities, 2D sheets from the model, IFC with class and Pset mapping
Standards
UNI 11337-1 and 4, ISO 19650-2, IFC 2x3 and IFC 4 as specified in the EIR, required classification systems (UNI 8290, Uniclass, OmniClass)
Tools
Autodesk Revit, Navisworks for federation, Autodesk Forma; B1P Group in-house tools for parameters, sheets, checks against the information requirements and IFC property sets

Which disciplines and which objects?

Architecture (envelope, partitions, finishes, openings, furniture where required), structure (foundations, concrete and steel frames, reinforcement when the level requires it), MEP (mechanical, plumbing, electrical and special services, with routes, equipment and plant rooms). For high-density hospital and industrial services, the MEP model is among the most demanding and among those that save the most on site. The same applies to BIM modelling of data centres, where cooling, power and cable trays are coordinated with racks and the raised floor.

Families are the heart of the work: system families are set up in the template, loadable families are built or adapted with the parameters of the information requirements, without detail that adds weight without serving a purpose.

How are Revit models from several disciplines coordinated?

With a federated model in Navisworks or in the common data environment: each discipline works on its own file, linked to the others; clashes are searched for by groups of systems, classified and resolved in coordination meetings, with a report that records who does what. The BIM coordinator keeps the clash log and the clash matrix.

The rules in the BIM execution plan (shared origin, common levels and grids, worksets, file naming) are what make coordination possible; without written rules the models do not line up.

What do we automate in Revit?

Repetitive operations: filling in and checking parameters, laying out sheets, exporting IFC Psets, checking consistency with the information requirements, placing repeated elements along an alignment. B1P Group uses an in-house suite of Revit tools, built on its projects, and develops tailored automation as part of its artificial intelligence for BIM service.

Automation does not replace the rules: it works when the template and families are set up properly, and it produces measurable savings on large models and repeated deliveries.

What does a Revit delivery contain?

The minimum standard of a B1P Group delivery, before the internal check and upload to the common data environment.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about Revit

Which version of Revit do you work with?

With the version required by the client and the information requirements, because Revit files are not backward compatible. We keep the latest versions and those still in use on open projects; the version is set in the BIM execution plan and does not change during the project without agreement.

Do you also create custom Revit families?

Yes: parametric families for manufacturers, for repeated components and for elements that standard libraries do not include, with the shared parameters of the information requirements and the agreed level of detail. The libraries stay with the client.

Can the Revit file be delivered to a contracting authority?

Public-sector information requirements generally call for the open IFC format, and often the native file as well. We deliver both, with the IFC export checked in a third-party viewer and the class mapping documented.

Do you provide Revit training?

Yes, mainly for third parties (training providers, professional bodies and companies), in-house for teams adopting BIM, and in classes for individuals: basic and advanced programmes taught by people who model on projects every day.
