BIM manager course

The course for those who manage the information of a project or an organisation: standards, documents, common data environment and checks, with preparation for the UNI 11337-7 certification exam.
At a glance

B1P Group's BIM manager course trains those who need to set up and run the information management of a project or an organisation: the standards (UNI 11337, ISO 19650, Legislative Decree 36/2023 with Annex I.9), the documents (exchange information requirements, pre-appointment and post-appointment BIM execution plans), the common data environment, model checking and the BIM management system. It prepares candidates for the UNI 11337-7 certification exam for the BIM manager role, which is taken at How Strategy Solution, our partner assessment body (OdV), qualified by IQUA; the certificate is issued by IQUA. The trainers work as BIM managers on B1P Group's projects.

Definition

What does the BIM manager course include?

The course follows the tasks that UNI 11337-7 assigns to the BIM manager: defining information requirements and processes, writing and reviewing project documents, organising roles and the common data environment, checking the quality of information and guiding the organisation through change. It starts from the standards and moves on to the documents, written in class on real cases.

Those coming from the BIM coordinator role will find modules on processes and documents; those starting from modelling first take the modules on standards. The course ends with mock exams.

What is the programme?

Standards: UNI 11337, ISO 19650, Legislative Decree 36/2023 with Annex I.9 and the guidelines of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Documents: exchange information requirements, pre-appointment and post-appointment BIM execution plans, the organisational act for contracting authorities. Common data environment: structure, states, approval workflows, information security. Quality: model checking rules, levels of information need, deliverables. Organisation: roles, procedures, BIM management system to UNI/PdR 74 and UNI 11337-8.

The programme adapts to the audience: for a contracting authority it focuses on the information requirements, the organisational act and tender evaluation; for a design firm or a contractor, on the pre-appointment and post-appointment BIM execution plans and the common data environment.

Who teaches the course?

B1P Group's BIM managers and coordinators: they write exchange information requirements and BIM execution plans, set up common data environments and check models before handover. In class they bring real, anonymised documents and the mistakes that lose points in a tender or delay a handover.

On longer courses there is more than one trainer, depending on the module; a course coordinator follows the group from the start through to the mock exam.

What happens in class?

Participants write the documents: exchange information requirements for a typical asset, the pre-appointment BIM execution plan that responds to them, the BIM execution plan after contract award; they set up a common data environment with states and workflows; they check a model against the rules in the information requirements. Every exercise starts from anonymised cases taken from B1P Group's projects.

In-company, the work is done on the client's documents and models: the course also produces the first procedures of the client's BIM management system.

How does it prepare you for the UNI 11337-7 exam?

The course covers the knowledge, skills and competences that UNI 11337-7 requires of a BIM manager and ends with mock exams. The exam is taken at How Strategy Solution, our partner assessment body (OdV), qualified by IQUA; the certificate is issued by IQUA. Training and exam remain separate paths: B1P Group prepares candidates, it does not certify them.

The same structure applies to the BIM coordinator and CDE manager roles, with shorter modules. The full overview of our training is on the BIM training page.

BIM manager course

How does it work for individuals, companies and institutions?

For individuals we run classes under the B1P Group name; dates, format and fee are agreed on request. For companies the BIM manager course is held in-house, on the company's own documents and projects, often as part of a BIM implementation programme.

For training providers and professional bodies, the training-for-third-parties model applies: the organisation chooses the modules and offers the course under its own name; B1P Group provides the programme, trainers, materials, registers and certificates of attendance. Where the organisation is also a certification body, training and exams remain separate.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the BIM manager course

Do I need to be a BIM coordinator already?

No, but you need to know BIM from the model side. Those coming from modelling first take the modules on standards and documents; those who are already coordinators can start with the common data environment and the management system.

Is the course enough to get certified?

As exam preparation, yes: it covers the content that UNI 11337-7 requires of a BIM manager and ends with mock exams. Certification then also requires meeting the entry requirements, such as qualifications and experience, set by IQUA's certification scheme on the basis of UNI 11337-7, and passing the exam. The exam is taken at How Strategy Solution, our partner assessment body (OdV), qualified by IQUA, and the certificate is issued by IQUA: we help you check the requirements before you register.

Can it be done online?

Yes, live, with exercises on the documents shared and corrected by the trainers.

Can I enrol as an individual?

Yes. We also run classes under the B1P Group name for individual professionals: tell us your current role and when you would like to take the exam, and we will let you know dates, format and fee.
