Revit course

Basic and advanced syllabus for architecture, structure and MEP, taught by people who model every day: in-house, in the classroom or online, also under the organising body's brand.
At a glance

B1P Group's Revit course is structured in levels, from the basic architectural model to parametric families, multidisciplinary coordination and IFC delivery, with modules dedicated to structure and MEP. It is aimed at companies training their own teams and at training providers and professional bodies that offer it under their own name; the trainers model in Revit on B1P Group projects.

Definition

What does the Revit course include?

Three levels that can be combined. The basic level teaches you to build a correct architectural model: project set-up, levels and grids, walls, floors, roofs, openings, views, annotations, sheets and schedules. The intermediate level moves into the disciplines: structure (foundations, frames, reinforcement where required) and MEP (mechanical, plumbing and electrical services, with systems and basic calculations). The advanced level works on rules: parametric families, templates and standards, worksets and collaboration, coordination with Navisworks, IFC export with class mapping.

Each level has exercises on real, anonymised projects taken from B1P Group's work, and ends with a practical test.

Duration and format
Basic 16 to 24 hours, intermediate 16 to 24 hours per discipline, advanced 16 to 24 hours; half-day or full-day modules; in the classroom at the client's venue, live online or in-house on the client's projects; groups of up to eight people
Who it is for
Architects, engineers, surveyors and technicians from design practices and contractors; company teams adopting BIM; members of professional bodies through the body's own agreements
Attendance certificate and requirements
Certificate of attendance under the organising body's or B1P Group's brand; CPD credits through the organising professional body; a computer with Revit installed is required (trial licence or the client's licence), version agreed in advance

What is the syllabus, level by level?

Basic: interface and project set-up, system families, views and sections, annotations, sheets, schedules, DWG and PDF export. Intermediate structural: structural grids and levels, foundations, columns and beams, floors, reinforcement, structural schedules. Intermediate MEP: systems, equipment, routing, basic sizing, plant rooms, MEP schedules. Advanced: parametric and nested families, shared parameters, project templates, worksets and linked models, coordination and clashes, IFC and property sets.

The syllabus adapts to the audience: for a professional body it focuses on architecture and coordination, for a contractor on MEP and reading other people's models, for a structural practice on reinforcement and schedules.

Who teaches the course?

B1P Group professionals who use Revit on live projects: they model hospitals, stations, industrial plants and residential buildings, and bring to the classroom real problems, working templates and the errors that show up in model checks. They do not teach the software in the abstract, but how to deliver a model that passes a check.

Longer courses have more than one trainer, depending on the discipline of each module; a course coordinator keeps everything together and handles the relationship with the organising body.

Revit course

Which projects do you practise on?

On anonymised cases taken from B1P Group projects: a building for the basic level, a building block with structure and services for the intermediate levels, a federated model with clashes to resolve for the advanced level. In-house courses work on the client's projects, with its own templates and standards, so the course also produces a piece of real work.

The materials (handouts, exercise files, families) remain with the participants under a licence to use; the organising body receives a licence for later runs of the course.

Revit course

How does it work for individuals, companies and institutions?

For individuals we run classes under the B1P Group name, from basic to advanced level; dates, format and fee are agreed on request. For companies, the corporate Revit course is held in-house or online, on the team's projects.

For Revit training with training providers and professional bodies: the organisation chooses levels and modules, sets the calendar and price for its members and offers the course under its own name; B1P Group provides the syllabus, trainers, materials under the organisation's brand, attendance registers and certificates, and prepares the documentation for CPD credits and funded training. A typical course for professional bodies is ten modules over an academic year, with credits.

In companies the course is often combined with a BIM implementation programme.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the Revit course

Do I need to know CAD already?

No. The basic level starts from scratch; people who know CAD pick up the logic of views faster, but Revit works differently and the course explains it from the beginning.

Does the course prepare you for certification?

It prepares you for work; for UNI 11337-7 personnel certification there is a dedicated course that also covers processes and standards. The two can be combined.

Can it be done entirely online?

Yes, live, with shared exercises and correction of your files; for the advanced levels we recommend at least one day in person on the client's projects.

How many people per course?

Up to eight for the computer exercises, so that we can follow each person; for theory lessons or professional bodies' seminars there is no limit.

Can I enrol as an individual?

Yes. We also run classes under the B1P Group name for individual professionals: tell us your starting level and the discipline you are interested in, and we will send you dates, format and fee.
