BIM for designers

For architecture and engineering practices, B1P Group acts as an external BIM department: it models the missing disciplines, coordinates the federated model, writes the pre-appointment and post-appointment BIM execution plans for tenders and checks the models before handover. We review contracts and information requirements together with our partner law firm.

Four points of view, one model.

Architecture and engineering

Deliver a coordinated design.

All disciplines in one model, with clashes resolved before delivery.

How we work

How does B1P Group work with a design practice?

We step in where the practice needs capacity or method: at tender stage, with the pre-appointment BIM execution plan written to the structure of the information requirements; during design, with modelling of the disciplines the practice does not have in-house (structure, building services, infrastructure in Civil 3D) and with coordination of the federated model; at handover, with model checking before the client sees the models. We work to your standards or, if there are none, we write them with you: naming conventions, templates, families, modelling rules.

The relationship is ongoing or project by project. In consortia of several practices we act as external BIM coordinator, neutral towards the partners; on public projects we follow the contracting authority's common data environment and respond to its checks. Contract support, with our partner law firm, is needed when the requirements ask for more than the appointment pays for.

Deliverables

What do we deliver, and when?

Deliverables follow the stages of the appointment; the formats are those required by the information requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from a design practice

Can you work to our standards and with our templates?

Yes, that is the normal case: we work in your template, with your naming conventions and families. If they are missing, we write them with you and they stay with your practice.

Do you only model, or do you also coordinate?

Both. We model the disciplines you lack and coordinate the federated model, with meetings and a clash log; in consortia we act as external BIM coordinator.

How do you handle a tender with exchange information requirements?

We read the EIR, write the pre-appointment BIM execution plan following its structure and, after the award, the post-appointment plan. If the EIR asks for more than the appointment covers, we say so before the bid.

Do you work remotely or at our offices?

Remotely, through the common data environment, with coordination meetings by video call; in the office, at company and partner premises, when the project requires it.
